POLICE OFFICER
The Kent Police Department is actively recruiting entry level and lateral police officer candidates. We are seeking dedicated men and women who are interested in a challenging and rewarding employment opportunity.
Application information:
Entry level candidates participate in a testing process conducted by Public Safety Testing. Qualified candidates proceed to an oral board conducted by the police department.
Lateral applicants do not go through Public Safety Testing. Applicants are not required to take a written or a physical testing assessment. The testing process consists of an oral board with a pass/fail component.
Entry and lateral candidates must successfully pass an extensive background check, and medical, psychological and polygraphs tests.

Department information:
The Kent Police Department has 130 sworn officers and 57 full-time and part-time civilian personnel.
The Kent Police Department is widely acknowledged as a visionary, cutting-edge law enforcement agency. The agency was one of the first in Washington State to obtain national accreditation from Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). We offer a wide variety of law enforcement assignments within the patrol division including canine, bicycle patrol, field training, marine services, SWAT, hostage negotiations, traffic and motorcycle enforcement positions. Supporting services include a staffed training center and indoor firearms range, the City of Kent Corrections Center, Crime Scene Investigators, and a 24/7 Records Unit.
Initial assignment for all officers will be to the patrol division. Patrol officers work a 4 days on, 3 days off work week, with days off rotating every 6 weeks. All officers successfully completing probation bid for their shift on a semi-annual basis. Police officers also receive education reimbursement, longevity compensation, excellent medical, dental and vision benefits and the best available training and equipment. Salary enhancements for education degree and specialty assignments are available, as is a sick leave buy-back program.
Job Requirements
Entry level- Must be 21 years old at the time of state certification and successfully complete the state law enforcement training program (Basic Academy). See www.PublicSafetyTesting.com for further information.
Lateral level- The applicant shall have successfully completed a state law enforcement academy training program. Those who have not completed the Basic Academy in Washington will be required to certify through the Washington State Basic Equivalency process. Candidate must have been employed as a commissioned full-time general authority law enforcement officer with a municipal, county or state law enforcement agency.
Salary Information:
2007 base salary range from $4,370 progressing to $5,502 can be enhanced by education, specialty assignments and longevity. Lateral candidate salary is within this range and is DOQ.

CORRECTIONS OFFICER
The City of Kent Corrections Facility is accepting applications for entry level correction officers. The City is looking for energetic, dedicated men and women who are interested in a challenging and rewarding career.
Application Process
Entry level candidates participate in a testing process conducted by Public Safety Testing (the candidate completes a physical agility test and written examination) . Qualified candidates proceed to an oral board conducted by the Kent Corrections Division.

Department information:
The City of Kent Corrections Facility has 25 trained professional Corrections Officers and (two) civilian personnel.
The City of Kent Corrections Facility is a nationally accredited corrections facility and is known as the largest municipal jail in the northwest, housing 122 misdemeanant inmates on average each day and provide alternative programming to those who qualify.
In addition to the duties of Corrections Officer, assignments include Field Training Officer, Accreditation Officer, Trustee Coordinator, Programs Coordinator and Work Crew Coordinator.
Job Requirements
Entry level candidates must be 18 years of age at the time of state certification, a US Citizen, graduated from a standard High School or possess a GED, or equivalent; possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one; pass a polygraph examination; successfully complete all requirements of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission basic Correction Officer Training Academy including defensive tactics within six months of employment; complete basic First Aid/CPR certification within the first year of employment.
Salary information:
2007 base salary range from $43,800 to $53,340 annually and can be enhanced by education, specialty assignments and longevity.

FIREFIGHTER
Serving the greater Kent area. Must be 18 years of age or older by the time of appointment, U.S. Citizen, high school graduate or GED equivalent. Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and successfully complete the employer’s defensive driving program within six months of employment. EMT certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment while maintaining a current level of certification. Additional Civil Service qualifying tests ands oral interviews will be conducted and conditional offers of employment will be made upon successful completion of a background check, driving record, and medical and psychological examination. Positions in this class must meet Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
